Five Rim country athletes, all members of the local swim team, swam their way to a bevy of medals at the Grand Canyon State Games, held June 17 on the campus of Arizona State University in Tempe.
Brooke Bennett, Shelby Bennett, Jaycee Boll, Brandon Boll and Jordon Boll combined for two gold, five silver and three bronze medals.
Brooke Bennett led the way for the splash squad, medaling in all four of her events.
Competing in the girls 15-18-years division, Bennett who will be a sophomore at Payson High next fall won the 200-meter individual medley (2:38) and copped a pair of silvers in the 100-meter backstroke (1:09.27) and 100-meter butterfly (1:10.27). In the 100 freestyle, she was third in 1:04.35.
In the 13-14 girls division, Brooke's younger sister, Shelby, won a silver medal in the 100 backstroke (1:20.12) and a bronze in the 20 freestyle. Her time in the freestyle of 29.99 represented a personal best. Shelby was also fourth in the 10 butterfly.
Jaycee Boll, competition in the girls 8-and-under division, won a gold in the 50 backstroke (47.7) and a silver in the 50 butterfly (47.64).
Older brother Brandon, who a week earlier had captured two silver medals in the Grand Canyon Games wrestling competition, swam to a pair of runner-up finishes. Competing in the boys 13-14 division, Brandon was second in both the 100 backstroke (1:22.62) and 100 butterfly (1:25.62). He also finished fourth in the 50 freestyle.
The third member of the family added to the Boll legacy by placing sixth in the 100 freestyle (1:40.25) competing with the 9-10 girls.
She also was the fastest 9-year-old in the 100 individual medley, recording an ET of 1:55.26.
