The board of directors of Payson Area Habitat for Humanity, acting on the recommendation of its family selection committee, has announced that Christine Garcia has been chosen to be the recipient homeowner of PAHH's House #7, scheduled for completion in 2001.
Garcia is a single mother of two children, son Cody Antonio Garcia, 7, and daughter Aria Pauline Smith, 2.
In addition to raising her children, Garcia is a part-time student at Eastern Arizona College - Payson Campus, preparing for a future career in nutrition. Garcia was the successful candidate from a field of approximately 30 applicants.
She meets PAHH's three major criteria: has a housing need; is willing to partner with PAHH in the building of her home and has the ability to pay $1,000 in closing costs and repay a no-interest mortgage.
She has lived in the Payson area about two years.
At a recent meeting with PAHH officials, Garcia went over the processes that will take place now that she has been selected. She will partner with PAHH to complete 300 hours of "sweat equity."
This may be accomplished by planning and building her house as well as other PAHH houses under construction and also by assisting in a multitude of tasks including office work, public relations work and fund-raising efforts. Christine's friends and relatives may assist her by volunteering up to 120 of the needed hours. Considerations will be made and attention paid to the tasks assigned Garcia due to the fact that she has been disabled since birth
Garcia and her family will be introduced to the PAHH board of directors and guests at its July 27 monthly meeting, to be held at Payson United Methodist Church at 6 p.m.
