It's not an Oscar, but CableVision and AMC's Behind the Screen Test scholarship is a good place to start.

CableVision of Payson and American Movie Classics are teaming up to provide a Payson High School student with a $500 scholarship and a VCR for the recipient's school.

AMC's Behind the Screen Test is open to all high school students in the local CableVision service area.

Contestants must submit three-to-five minute VHS video presentations showcasing their talents. The videos can be recorded at a school or community play, or in a drama class. Screen tests can be a class performance, a monologue or a scene study.

The deadline for entries is April 14. VHS videotaped entries must be labeled with the student's name, address, phone number and the name of his or her school and local cable operator. All entries should be sent to: AMC's Behind the Screen Test, Bin No. 651, 4920 Santa Anita Avenue, El Monte, CA 91731.

The Payson area winner will be announced at the end of April. Local CableVision Manager Scott Flake will present the winner with $500 and the VCR for his or her school.
