Registration for the youth T-Ball and girls softball programs will begin Monday and continues through April 15. The T-Ball program is for boys and girls who are ages 5-7 as of Aug. 1, 2000. The youth softball program is for girls who are ages 8 -15 as of Aug. 1, 2000. Registration is $20 per child for each program. Coaches are needed! Season begins June 5, 2000.

Go take a hike!

There's still time to reserve your spot for a guided hike on the Rim country's infamous Tunnel Trail, scheduled for 9 a.m. April 20. This 3.2-mile trail ascends about 1,200 feet to the abandoned railroad tunnel once intended to bore through Mogollon Rim. The trail is rated as moderately difficult and includes a brief section of steep incline. Participants must be in good health and accustomed to physical activity. Hikers must bring their own water and sack lunch for the trail. The fee is $10 per person, which includes transportation and a light snack and beverage at the trailhead before returning to Payson. Space is limited. Registration deadline is April 14.

"Scrambled" Eggs

Mark your calendars now for the annual Parks & Recreation/Payson Elks Lodge Easter Egg Scramble, April 22, at Green Valley Park amphitheater. Weather permitting, children ages 8 and younger and will have a chance to fill their baskets with nearly 5,000 colorful eggs filled with candy and prize certificates for Easter baskets, stuffed animals, coloring books and other toys. The age groups and times are as follows:

--9 a.m. ages 7 & 8

--9:15 a.m. ages 5 & 6

--9:30 a.m. ages 3 & 4

--9:45 a.m. ages 0 & 2

--10 a.m. children with special needs (all ages)

Fishing Pole Loaner Program

Why not take advantage of the spring weather and this free fishing pole loaner program at Green Valley Park? The poles and mini tackle boxes are available at the Parks & Rec, 1000 W. Country Club Drive. You must be 18 years and older to check out the fishing poles, but anglers of all ages may use them. The program is sponsored by Arizona Game and Fish.
