Payson Golf Course played host Tuesday to members of the Payson Women's Golf Association who locked themselves in an unusually formatted foursome tournament.
The scoring, according to member Joyce Karnes, was calculated on the one best ball of the foursome on holes one through nine. On holes 10 through 17, the two best balls were counted. The three best were included in the score on the 18th and final hole.
With identical net scores of 85, a pair of teams tied for the tournament championship. On one of the gold-medal squads were Laura Meyocks, Nancy Kissenberth, Wilma Smith and Nancy Althoff. On the other title team were Lynn Kools, Blanche Nyberg, Doris Lemmage and Joan Johnson.
Glenda Cook pocketed closest-to-the-pin prize money on hole five, finishing 5 feet away. With a tee shot that left her 8 feet, 9 inches shy on hole 17, Joan Johnson was a prize winner.
