Battling 20mph wind gusts Tuesday morning, the members of the Payson Women's Golf Association struggled through their weekly tournament dealing with the elements as best they could, members say.
When the field of players finally returned wind-blown to the Payson Golf Course clubhouse for the 19th hole ceremonies, the foursome of Marge Landra, Lynn Kools, Etta Nichols and Billie Gibbs were crowned victors. The four finished with a tally of 116 in the two-best ball of foursome scored tournament. With a 119, Etta Nichols, Joan Johnson, Alesha Calderwood and Ruth Overton were second.
Overton also pocketed closest-to-the-pin prize money on hole 17 with a tee shot that left her 6 feet, 8 inches away. Blanche Nyberg won on hole five finishing 18 feet shy of the cup.
