First of all, let me say that I am not a member of the rodeo committee in any shape or form.
From time to time, I help Mr. (Bill) Armstrong at his pawn shop on Beeline. Last week before the spring rodeo, I was helping at the shop. I started getting phone calls about the rodeo. I started a phone log and took a total of 78 long-distance phone calls with questions about the event.
Every call was as follows:
"I called the chamber of commerce and was told to call the pawn shop because they didn't know anything about the rodeo."
I find it very unusual that (practically) every room of every motel in town was full, yet the chamber had no information about the rodeo. I was under the impression that the chamber was the source of information for all local events.
I guess the bottom line is, why do we need a chamber of commerce if it doesn't know or care what's going on in Payson. I thought its function was to help local business people?
