Two people died Thursday night in a fire that destroyed their doublewide mobile home in Payson Ranchos.
Firefighters, who arrived at the scene shortly after receiving an emergency call at 11:45 p.m., found the home fully engulfed in flames.
Twenty firefighters battled the blaze for 20 minutes before bringing it under control, Payson Fire Marshal Jack Babb said, but the home's raised floor had burned away, making it difficult to put the fire out. It took firefighters another two and a half hours to completely douse the flames.
"Anytime you have a structure with a raised floor, firefighters run the risk of falling through and injuring themselves," Babb said.
While firefighters worked to bring the fire under control, they found two people dead inside. Their names have not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.
As of press time, the cause of their deaths and the cause of the fire had not yet been determined.
