Putting A Label On Education

A group of Payson Elementary School second and third graders stood around an oversized soup can trying their darnedest to look like the Campbell's kids.

And they weren't half bad.

Accompanied by parent volunteer Jeanne Macfarlane, the PES children were drumming up support for the Campbell's Labels for Education and General Mills Box Tops for Education programs the school is participating in to acquire computer equipment and other items not in the school budget.

"Our first goal is to collect enough labels and box tops to purchase a new HP Desk Jet printer," Macfarlane said.

Parents, grandparents, friends and other Rim country residents are encouraged to cut the labels off participating Campbell's products and the Box Top for Education labels found on General Mills products and drop them off at one of the two drop boxes at PES.

One drop box is located in the left exit lane of the front driveway at the corner of Rancho Road and Hoover Drive, the other in the student drop-off lane on Airline Drive directly across from the swing set area.

Both programs continue through the entire school year.

Julia Randall Elementary and Frontier Elementary are also participating in the programs, although they don't offer outside drop boxes.

Besides soups, Campbell's brands include Prego, Pace, V8, Pepperidge Farm and Milano. Participating General Mills Products include Cheerios, Chex, Lucky Charms, Golden Grahams, Trix, Raisin Nut Bran, Nature Valley, Total and Wheaties cereals, plus Nature Valley, Pop-Secret, and Yoplait brands.
