Baldy and The Blondes II, a three generation revised version of the multi-sport relay team from Payson swept the relay field at the Blue Water Resort Triathlon Sunday Oct. 15 in Parker, Ariz.
The new version consisted of Brian Boll, swimmer, Dan Basinski, original member, cyclist and Shaylyn McGee, runner.
Boll, 37, a former coach of the Payson Pikes swim team, started the event and was first relay entrant out of the water with a time of 9 minutes, 14 seconds, giving Basinski an early lead.
Basinski, 57, took over on the bicycle leg of the event. He left the casino, rode to downtown Parker, across the river and to the Parker Dam, crossing it and back to the casino. The ride was a total of 34-1/2 miles. Basinski covered it in 1 hour and 37 minutes for a 21.5 mph average.
He then tagged 15 year-old Shaylyn McGee, the youngest female athlete in the event and varsity member of the Payson Longhorn cross country track team. McGee ran her five-mile leg in 35 minutes, 23 seconds, passing several contestants and only being passed by one male athlete.
The team won the coed division as well as beating all other teams entered. The team is looking forward to competing in other multi-sport events.
