Motorists traveling on Highway 260 in the Preacher Canyon and Kohl's Ranch areas will experience delays of up to 30 minutes beginning Monday, Oct. 23, and continuing for the next month, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.
Only one lane of traffic will be open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and a pilot car will guide motorists through the construction area.
During that time, construction crews will be laying a water line from the water pumping station across from Kohl's Ranch to Preacher Canyon.
The pumping station will divert excess water flow from Tonto Creek to recharge the wells supplying water for the 20-year construction project to widen 50 miles of that highway between Payson and Heber.
The Preacher Canyon phase of the project, which will take two years to complete, also includes building six bridges, two that will span the canyon and four for wildlife crossings.
