Samuel Russell Ferguson, 98, of Payson, died Oct. 29, 2000 in Payson. He was born Dec. 10, 1901, in St. Louis, Mo. and he attended high school in Carnegie, Okla, and business school in Chilicothe, Kan.

Mr. Ferguson worked as a telegrapher for the Santa Fe Railroad most of his life. He was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of El Dorado, Kan., and was active in the Meals on Wheels program in El Dorado.

He married Nan Lee (Ferguson) Jan. 1, 1925. The Fegusons lived in El Dorado, Kan. from 1925 until 1928, when they moved to the Prairie Homestead Home in Wichita, Kan. They resided at the Prairie Homestead until 1998, when they moved to Payson.

Survivors include his wife of 75 years, Nan Lee Ferguson, of Payson; two daughters, Janice F. Lurie of Payson and Carol Peters of Fontana, Calif.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be held in El Dorado, Kan. at a later date.

Arrangements were handled by Messinger Payson Funeral Home.
