Want to compete in a 5K (3.1-mile) race? You can do it, one step at a time! Train now to Turkey Trot 5K Walk/Run this fall. The class, led by certified trainer Abby Kendall, meets each Saturday from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Green Valley Park for 10 weeks, beginning Sept. 16 and ending on race day, Nov. 18. The cost is $40 per person, which includes:

All handouts and supplementary materials

Adult Coed Volleyball
Registration for adult coed volleyball will be held Sept. 5 through 15. Competitive and recreation divisions will be offered, with a four-team minimum for both divisions. Entry fee is $150 per team and includes an end-of-season tournament. Games begin the first week of October.
27th Annual Old Time Fiddlers Contest
Musicians and music lovers travel far and wide to attend this annual event, which is also the Arizona State Championship. The contest takes place at the Payson Event Center, Sept. 23-24. Divisions include Junior, Young Adult, Adult Senior, Trick & Fancy and Twin Fiddle divisions. Come and enjoy other activities such as Cowboy Poets, Storytellers, Arts & Crafts and Dancers from around the country participating in this Payson tradition.
Explore Kartchner Caverns
See Arizona's newest state park: a stunning pristine limestone cave filled with stalagmites, stalactites and other unusual formations. The $35 fee includes transportation via deluxe motor coach, park admission and cave tour. Seating is limited to the first 45 people to sign up for each trip. Trips are planned for Nov. 28, Dec. 12 and Feb. 20, and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
Fishing Pole Loaner Program
Fishing poles and mini tackle boxes are available at the Parks & Recreation office, 1000 W. Country Club Drive. You must be 18 years and older to check out the fishing poles, but anglers of all ages may use them free of charge. The program is sponsored by Arizona Game and Fish.
