Officers from the Payson Police Department and the Gila County Sheriff's Department are investigating a crime spree Saturday evening that stretched from mid-Payson to Mesa del Caballo.
"We had a pretty big rash of vandalism ... six or eight cases throughout town," Police Lt. Don Engler said.
Officers think the vandals struck between 12:30 a.m. and 1:30 a.m. Saturday.
"They hit all over," Officer Steve Caros said. "They broke out windows in vehicles at Chapman Auto, in and around the Payson High School, up by the airport, over on Miller Road and even one case in Mesa del (Caballo)."
Because all of the destruction was caused in similar ways, police think the crimes were committed by the same suspects.
"These all happened within the same time frame, and all of the damage was done using implements near where the vehicles were parked," he said.
By the time all of the reports were filed, about a dozen damaged vehicles had been identified, Caros said.
"We're actively investigating this," he said.
Anyone with information about the damage can call the Payson Police Department at 474-5177.
