Just as traffic was picking up Wednesday afternoon along the Beeline Highway, an accident in front of the Wal-Mart Supercenter brought it to a screeching halt.
At 4:27 p.m. Wednesday, Donna Gonzales was heading south on the Beeline, approaching the light at Rumsey Drive. In the opposite direction, a 17-year-old Payson girl was waiting to turn her vehicle onto Rumsey Drive north of Wal-Mart. The girl turned and slammed into Gonzales' car.
"Both vehicles suffered damage to the drivers' side front quarter panels," Payson Police Officer Charlene Hunt said. "The impact from the crash flattened the tire and bent the rim of Gonzales' car."
Gonzales was sent to the hospital with minor injuries and was treated and released.
The teen was cited for failure to yield while turning left, and the scene was cleared by 5:15 p.m., Hunt said.
