Emily May Beers, 73, of Star Valley, died Sept. 23, 2000, in Payson. She was born Oct. 12, 1926, in Galveston, Texas to Homer and Sadie Wheeless, and lived in Texas, California, Utah and other areas of Arizona before moving to Payson.
Emily taught school for 31 years, 20 of which were at Judson School in Scottsdale, Ariz. She won 130 trophies as a speed water skier, five of which were national awards. She was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church of Payson and a volunteer for the Time Out Thrift Shop.
Survivors include her husband, Elmer Beers, of Payson; one son, Clinton Chappell of Oak Hill, Va.; one daughter, Frances Miller of Avondale, Ariz.; one stepson, Jerry Beers of Jacksonville, Ore; three stepdaughters, Claudia Polega of Scottsdale, Christine Mitchell and Cathleen Descheemaker of Pine; one brother, Homer David Wheeless of Indianapolis, Ind.; one sister, Frances Harrell of Tyler, Texas; brother-in-law, Lionel Beers and his wife, Marian; two sisters-in-law, Eulabel Sheldon and her husband, Charlie and Rena V. Karnes; 20 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Steve Wheeless of Dallas,Texas.
Memorial services were held Sept. 26 at First Southern Baptist Church in Payson.
