Globe authorities identified the Payson resident who was found dead in his jail cell Monday as 52-year-old Lawrence Bud Blalock.
Blalock had been booked into the Globe facility Friday to serve a 10-day sentence for driving under the influence of alcohol.
Capt. Bill Blank said that the inmate suffered a few seizures Saturday and was taken to the Cobre Valley Community Hospital. Blank said Blalock was examined and released back into custody, and was placed in an observation cell.
"We monitored the inmate about every 10 minutes throughout the evening," he said.
Monday morning, breakfast was delivered at 5:50 a.m., the captain said, and at that time, Blalock was conscious.
"We checked on him about 15 minutes later and found that he had expired," Blank said.
Autopsy being performed
The inmate was transported to the Pima County Medical Examiner for autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
Sgt. Tom Rasmussen said autopsy results won't be available for four to six weeks.
