If you know anyone who'd be perfect to serve as grand marshal or junior grand marshal in a parade, march this way ... the Payson Pro Rodeo Committee is seeking nominations for two local residents who have what it takes to fill those positions at the Spring Rodeo "Main Event" Parade.
The job requirements involve a bit more than waving and smiling, however.
The ideal nominees are those of any age who have successfully impacted their families, friends and neighbors through their generosity, awareness and community action.
Nominations must be received no later than Friday, April 27, 2001. It will be up to the Payson Pro Rodeo Committee to sift through the ballots and select a grand and junior grand marshal to represent the community in the parade.
The parade will be the opening event of Rodeo Weekend, beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 12, moving west on Main Street and ending at McLane. A trophy presentation will be held following the parade at the Green Valley Park gazebo, where both grand marshals will dole out the trophies to each parade category winner.
For their efforts, the two grand marshals will receive two free dinners at the Mazatzal Casino's Cedar Ridge Restaurant, as well as a pair of tickets for Saturday night's rodeo, during which they will be introduced to the crowd.
Nominations must include the nominee's name, address and phone number, along with a short explanation of why they should be named grand or junior grand marshal. All nominations must be mailed to the Payson Pro Rodeo Committee, P.O. Box 937, Payson, AZ 85547.
