Take A Hike! (to Tunnel Trail)
Last chance to sign up for a trek through the tall pines next Thursday, April 26. You'll ascend up the Mogollon Rim to the "Tunnel to Nowhere." The trail is just over three miles round trip and is rated moderately difficult. Participants should be in good health and accustomed to physical activity. The fee is $10 per person, which includes transportation and a light snack and beverage at the trailhead after the excursion.
Youth T-Ball & Girls Softball Registration
Registration for the youth T-Ball and all girls softball programs will be held through April 27. The T-ball program is for boys and girls ages 4-7 as of Aug. 1, 2001. The girls softball program is for girls who are ages 7-15 as of Aug. 1, 2001. Divisions are as follows:
Ages 7-10: Coach Pitch
Ages 12 & Under Modified Pitch
Ages 15 & Under Modified Pitch
Ages 13-18 Fast Pitch
Registration is $20 per child for each program. Season begins June 4, 2001.
Major League Baseball Skills Competition
This program gives boys & girls ages 7-14 the opportunity to feature their batting, fielding/throwing, and base-running abilities. Age is based on the child's age as of Aug. 31, 2001. The local competition will take place at 2 p.m. at Rumsey II (North) ballfield Saturday, April 21. There is no charge for this event. All participants must bring their own glove. Stop by the Parks and Recreation at Green Valley Park to register.
Lifeguard Training Class
If you're age 15 or older, you can become a certified lifeguard by completing the American Red Cross "Lifeguard Training for the Professional Lifeguard" classes April 30 to May 12. Classes will be held Monday through Friday, 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays, 9 a.m. to noon. Fee for the class includes Lifeguard Training, CPR and First Aid. Registration is $50 per person. Participants must register at the Parks and Recreation office by 5 p.m. Friday, April 27. This class is for new lifeguards, or those who need to update their certification.
Water Safety Instructor Course
If you're age 17 or older and have strong swimming skills, enroll in this class May 14 to 26. Classes will be held Monday through Friday, 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays, 9 a.m. to noon. Upon completion, you'll be eligible to lessons at Taylor Pool or anywhere American Red Cross lesson are offered. Registration is $50 per person. This class is for new instructors, or for those who need to update their certification.
Grab a Pole
Fishing poles and mini tackle boxes are available at the Parks and Recreation office. You must be 18 years and older to check out the fishing poles, but anglers of all ages may use them free of charge. The program is sponsored by Arizona Game and Fish.
