Jones Wins A-Flight In Pwga Season Opener

In a season-opening Payson Women's Golf Association tournament contested under Mutt-and-Jeff rules, Mary Jones, Joyce Goff, Glenda Cook, Doris Lemmage and Wilma Smith claimed first-place honors in their respective flights.

The tournament was contest April 17 on Payson Golf Course.

In the Jack-and-Jill scoring system, players play each hole, but the only scores counted in the final standings are those of par three and five holes.

Jones won the A-flight, Lemmage was tops in C-flight and Smith won among the D players. Goff and Cook tied for the B-flight crown. Runner-up up honors went to Joyce Karnes (A), Blanche Nyberg (C) and Dee Orr (D).

The traditional closest-to-the-pin competition saw wiley veteran Marge Landra win on hole eight and Lemmage on 14.

The members of the PWGA association return to action today (Tuesday) in a "Trouble Plus Score" formatted tournament at PGC.

The unusual format, Hull said, was one she was not familiar with but "I'm sure we'll all find out before tee time."
