John Wallace Ashby, 82, of Payson, died Feb. 21, 2001, in Payson. He was born Oct. 2, 1918, in Long Beach, Calif.

Mr. Ashby worked as a plasterer.

Survivors include three daughters Pat Heuett and her husband, Arlen, of Pinetop, Ariz.; Sue Heuett and her husband, Rod, of Show Low, Ariz.; Karen Peck and her husband, Richard, of Payson; one son Steven Ashby of Phoenix; three sisters Alice Bastion of Prescott Valley, Ariz., Janet Gatliff of Kingman, Ariz., and Christine Dudley and her husband, Clinton, of Kingman, Ariz.; three brothers Paul Ashby and his wife, Dorothy, of Payson, Glenn Ashby and his wife, Rebecca, of Phoenix, Ariz., and Clayton Ashby and his wife, Eleanor, of Christopher Creek, Ariz.; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Nancy Ashby, in 1992; two sons John Wallace Ashby Jr. and Wayne Ashby; three brothers Robert Ashby, Norman Ashby and Lee Ashby; one sister Barbara; and grandson Steven Peck.

Visitation was today (Friday, Feb. 23) fo;;owed by a funeral service at Messinger Payson Funeral Home. Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. today at Greenwood Memory Lawn, 719 N. 27th Ave., Phoenix.
