Raymond Green, 81, of Payson, died Feb. 16, 2001. He was born April 29, 1919, in Lehi, Ariz.
He attended Lehi School and graduated from Mesa High School. After he served with the Navy Seabees, he and his brother, Billy, started a welding shop in Chandler. He later owned Ace Plastering Company with his childhood friend, Rod Lee. Mr. Green also was co-owner of Smith and Green Corporation in Phoenix until he retired in 1982.
Mr. Green and his wife, Rose, moved from the Valley to Freedom Acres in 1977 and then moved in 1985 to the Green Apple Orchard outside Star Valley. Mr. Green invented a number of machines and tools to make his work easier on his apple orchard, and when he was no longer able to work, his neighbors at Dealer's Choice were always there to help.
Every year, the Greens held a neighborhood apple juicing party, which Mr. Green supervised. As a reward, participants received all the fresh-pressed apple juice they could drink and access to Mr. Green's tools and machines.
Survivors include his wife, Rose Marie Green, of Payson; one daughter Sandee McColm; one sister, Dolly Lambson; two grandchildren, Kevin McColm and Kelly McColm Cuellar; and step-grandchildren, Andy Gutierrez, Jessica Gutierrez, Christopher Gutierrez and Gregory Gutierrez.
Visitation and services were held Feb. 21 at the Lehi Ward building of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Mesa
Interment was at City of Mesa Cemetery.
