Status Hearing Set For Shooting Suspect

A status hearing is set for 3 p.m. Monday in the case against Star Valley resident Paul Roosen, who is accused of murdering part-time Star Valley resident Calista Wright.

Roosen is being held on charges of first-degree murder in connection with the February 2000 shooting of Wright, who was shot and killed in her Star Valley home. Roosen also is charged with attempted first-degree murder for trying to shoot Wright's husband, Garrett.

After Roosen was arrested, he was booked into Gila County jail, where he remains in lieu of a $1 million bond.

The case, which has been plagued by delays, was most recently stalled in November when Roosen's defense attorney, Jim Hazel, was elected Gila County Attorney in November. The election left Roosen without council until January, when Payson attorney Chuck Walker took the case.

Prosecutors from Pinal County will take over the case for former Gila County Attorney Jerry DeRose.

Roosen's status conference will be at the Gila County Courthouse, 1400 E. Ash Street in Globe.
