Scottsdale resident Ronald Bozzi, 58, died Thursday morning when his delivery van rear-ended a gasoline tanker on Highway 87 north of Rye.
The accident happened at 10:48 a.m. in the northbound division of the highway. Department of Public Safety officers say Bozzi was traveling at about 65 mph, and due to inattention, ran into the back of the tanker, which was traveling at about 35 mph.
"The driver was talking at the scene, and was able to give us a good explanation of what occurred," DPS Sgt. John Whetten said. "He died in the helicopter on the way to Phoenix."
