Snowy weather in the Rim country Friday and Saturday forced rescheduling of several prep basketball clashes. Among those were Payson High boys and girls basketball games against Round Valley Friday evening and Saturday against Show Low. The weekend games were to be contested in Wilson Dome. Due to hazardous road conditions, a mutual agreement to postpone was made between officials in Payson, Show Low and Round Valley.
After the snowstorm struck northern Arizona Friday morning, snowchains or four-wheel drive vehicles were required to travel on Highway 260 just east of Star Valley.
According to PHS boys basketball coach Randy Wilcox, the games against Show Low have been rescheduled to Jan. 24. The contests with Round Valley will be contested Jan. 31. The rescheduling will result in a hectic schedule for both Longhorn hoop teams and their coaches. During one stretch, squads will play four games in five days.
The arduous stint begins Jan. 23, when Payson hosts Snowflake and continues the following day with the rescheduled Show Low contest.
Two days later, Jan. 26, Payson travels to Blue Ridge for crucial East region showdowns. The Horns hit the road again Jan. 27, this time to the campus of Pinnacle High School in Scottsdale. The hectic week, Wilcox said, will be a stern test for his charges and those of girls basketball coach Shaun Hardt.
