Teachers and students in several Rim country classrooms will reap the financial rewards of an upcoming Ducks Unlimited raffle.
DU chair Bruce Wilson announced this week that beginning in early February, the local chapter will be selling raffle tickets for $10 each. The money generated from the raffle will ultimately benefit fifth-grade teachers and students in Payson, Pine and Tonto Basin.
The local benefit is part of the nationwide Ducks Unlimited Greenwing program that has been ongoing in Payson for the past three years.
In addition to providing financial resources for environmental education programs in fifth-grade classrooms, Greenwing furnishes quarterly DU outdoor educational magazines to the youngsters.
The raffle will be conducted at the Ducks Unlimited Banquet Oct. 13. The main prize will be a Polaris 325 4x4 ATV from Payson's Four Seasons Motorsports, valued at about $5,000.
The second-place prize is a complete patio set including table and four chairs donated by Arizona Easy Living. Third-place winner receives a La-Z-Boy recliner from Legacy Home Furnishings. A 10-22 Ruger .22 LR rifle equipped with a 3x9 scope, slip and reworked target trigger will be awarded to the fourth-place raffle winner. The rifle is donated by Silver Bullet Gunsmithing in Flagstaff.
Wilson urges all local DU members and others to support the raffle movement.
