Rita Riell-Corbin, former Gila County public fiduciary, is scheduled to attend her pre-trial conference Tuesday, July 10 at the Gila County Superior Court in Globe.
Riell-Corbin, who is accused of embezzling more than $1 million from wards of the state, pleaded not guilty to the charges of fraud, theft, misuse of public funds, conflict of interest and perjury.
Public fiduciaries are responsible for the management of estates of people deemed by the court to be incapable of handling their own affairs, due to physical or mental impairment.
The case was turned over to the Arizona Auditor General's office, and after months of investigation, detectives concluded that she embezzled at least $1,177,884 from the wards of the state entrusted in her care.
Jim Hazel, Gila County Attorney, said the Arizona Attorney General's Office will prosecute the case, and the pretrial is scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday.
