Frances V. Conway, 78, of Tonto Basin, died, July 11, 2001, in Tucson. She was born Nov. 12, 1922, in Pensacola, Fla.
Mrs. Conway moved to Payson from Alabama at the age of 12, and was married to E.C. Conway June 13, 1939 in Globe.
Frances, a 66-year Tonto Basin resident, was best known as "Mammy" to most residents. She was always willing to help in any community project. She was the past president of the Tonto Basin Homemakers, a member of the Tonto Cowbelles, a 50-year member of the Globe Eastern Star and a member of numerous other organizations in the community. She also was instrumental in getting the Tonto Basin School built.
Survivors include her husband, E.C. Conway of Tonto Basin; two daughters, Mary Ann Sage of Tucson and Jeanne Halmer of Tonto Basin; two sons, Eddie Conway of Tonto Basin and Bill Conway of Payson; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, July 14 at the Tonto Basin School, with burial in the Tonto Basin Cemetery.
Donations may be made to Tonto Basin Community Bible Church.
