More than 40 eager youngsters turned out Monday morning in Wilson Dome for the second annual Lady Longhorn basketball camp.

As the opening session wore on, camp coaches Shaun Hardt, Tobi Waugh, Terry Cline and Rory Huff put the girls through their paces, instructing them on the finer points of shooting, rebounding, dribbling, passing, defense and team play.

Young basketball players learn the proper techniques for pre-game stretching activities. The girls, ages 8 to 14, were participating in Monday morning's opening session of the Lady Longhorn girls basketball camp. The camp drew 40-plus hardwood hopefuls.

On hand to assist was former Lady Longhorn star Reanna Martinez and current players Jennifer Plumb, Brandi Waugh and Hillary Hardt.

To keep the sessions interesting, coaches and assistants focused on games, contests and challenges that also helped improve the campers' on-court skills.

The camp will continue from 8 a.m. until noon before wrapping up Thursday with the traditional camp-ending awards ceremony.

The camp, which attracted players from 8 to 14 years of age, is being co-sponsored by the Town of Payson Parks and Recreation Department.
