Payson golfer Dorothy Meek played her way to the ladies low-gross championship at the prestigious High Hampton Mountain Lodge Super Senior Invitational Golf Tournament in North Carolina's Smokey Mountains.
The tournament, held June 3 to 8, drew more than 80 players most of whom hailed from the southern states.
"I traveled the furtherest to get to the tournament," Meek said.
"Lots (of the players) were from Florida and there to escape the heat."
A PWGA members since 1984 and a past association president, Meek said she learned about the High Hampton tournament in a golf magazine and decided to enter.
Over the course of four days, Meek competed in several different foursomes with players she had never met.
"Playing with strangers was different, but (also) fun," Meek said.
On the final day of the fray, Meek nailed down low-medalist honors in a playoff championship round.
Meek is the only PWGA member to have participated in the tournament, she said.
