Donald Lewis Berry, 79, of Payson, died March 1, 2001. He was born May 6, 1921, in Denver, Colo. and had been a resident of Arizona for the past 57 years.

Mr. Berry was a World War II veteran who served in the South Pacific as an army staff sergeant. He retired as a director of mails from the U.S. Postal Service in 1976 after 30 years of service. One of his duties was traveling to small offices such as Payson. Since Payson reminded him so much of his native South Dakota, he and his wife, Helen, chose it as their retirement home in 1979. He enjoyed fishing, and, in his later years, he enjoyed the casino. His ashes will be taken to this favorite fishing hole in Lead, S.D.

Survivors include his wife, Helen, of Payson, one daughter, Cindy, and her husband, Ron Weeks, of Payson; two sons Mick Berry and his wife, Joelle, of Denver, Colo. and Don Berry of Tucson, Ariz.; four grandchildren, Jason Weeks of Peoria, Ill., Amanda Weeks of Flagstaff, and Elizabeth and Michael Berry of Denver, Colo.

An open house will be held at a later date. Donations may be made to RTA Hospice, 107 E. Frontier St., Payson, AZ 85541.
