Velma Irene DeWitt, 95, of Payson, died March 1, 2001, at her assisted living home. She was born Aug. 11, 1905, in Burnettsville, Ind.
Following graduation from an Indianapolis beauty college, she worked as a beautician in Michigan City, Ind. for 12 years.
She married Dexter D. DeWitt, Sr. in 1935. She then worked as a state prison mail clerk for12 years, before retiring and moving to Payson in 1996.
Survivors include one son, Dr. Dexter DeWitt of Payson; one daughter, Karen Mizia of Michigan City, Ind.; grandchildren, Sara DeWitt and Kevin Frazier of Payson, Curtis DeWitt of Hurst, Texas, Dr. Adriane DeWitt of Kansas City, Kan., Mark, Tim and Steve Mizia of Michigan City, Ind., Laura Mills of Ashland, Mich., Jon Frazier of Mesa, Ariz. and Kristin Keith and Kathryn Frazier of Phoenix, Ariz.; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dexter D. DeWitt in 1955.
Services will be held at 7 p.m. today (Friday, March 9) at First Southern Baptist Church, 302 S. Ash St.
