The fate of the boys Longhorn track team could rest on the shoulders of senior strongman Sterling White. In two early season meets Feb. 28 at Chandler Hamilton and two days later at the Canyon State Cactus Classic White has been about the only scoring force the Horns can call upon.
At the three-way Chandler Hamilton clash, White finished first in the shot-put with a toss of 48 feet, 9 inches. His effort provided most of the meager 11 points the PHS boys posted. Host Hamilton ran away with the meet scoring a whopping 92 points. With 66, Mesa Red Mountain was second.
At the 19-team Canyon State meet in which the boys finished among the cellar dwellers with 25 points, White was second in both the shot-put (49 feet, 9 inches) and discus (137 feet, 6 inches).
Only three other team members Lucas Schmidt, Danny Malloy and Wes Sprinkle scored. White again provided the scoring punch.
