Fresh from winning East Region Golf of the Year prep honors, 15-year-old Billy Bob Hoyt traveled to Apache Junction to compete in the Junior Golf Association of Arizona State Tournament.

At the Apache Creek course Sunday, Hoyt continued his winning ways, tying for second in the boys 15-18 competition.

In the Stableford scoring format, Hoyt finished with 32 points, one behind age division champion Ryan Williams.

In Stableford scoring, players earn two points for a par score, three for a birdie and five for a double eagle. Bogies, or worse, have no point value.

Because Hoyt was deadknotted with two other competitors in the 54-player field, a scorecard playoff was held. He was eventually awarded fourth-place honors on the playoff.
