A pair of the finest soccer coaches in the state will visit the Rim country this summer to help fledgling players prepare for the demands of the next prep season.
Prescott Yavapai College Soccer coaches Mike Pantaloine and Hugh Bell will conduct the Payson Longhorn Soccer Camp July 23 to 26 on the Rumsey Park multipurpose field.
Penny Navis-Schmidt, who helped organize the camp, says both Pantaloine and Bell are highly respected soccer coaches who have led the Yavapai Roughriders to numerous national honors.
"It'll be a great way to get the boys ready for high school," Navis-Schmidt said.
At the camp, the coaches will focus on skill improvement, strategy and rules of the sport and physical conditioning.
The camp is open to boys from this spring's eighth-grade graduates to incoming seniors. The fee is $120 per person, which includes camp T-shirt, water bottle and soccer ball.
Navis-Schmidt is hoping close to 30 athletes will turn out for the camp. If more show up, the Yavapai coaches will recruit some of their collegiate players to help out.
From 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. July 25, Pantaloine and Bell will also host a coaching camp open to school and youth coaches. The cost is $25. Sessions will begin at 9 a.m. and continue until 4 p.m. daily.
