Meyocks, Landra Begin 2001 Golf Rivalry

In early season Payson Women's Golf Association action, Laura Meyocks and Marge Landra are waging one-on-one links warfare.

The rivalry began to heat up in a low-net tournament contested May 1, when Landra edged Meyocks for the A flight championship.

But one week later in a "chose the front or back (nine holes) score" formatted tournament, Meyocks emerged as A flight title holder. Landra settled for a second-place tie with Joyce Karnes.

If Meyocks and Karnes continue their torrid play, the PWGA season could turn wild and wooly.

In B flight play May 1, Glenda Cook edged Nancy Kisseberth for top honors.

Etta Nichols took C flight laurels over runner-up Doris Lemmage. Dorothy Back finished first in D flight.

Mary Jones took closest-to-the-pin honors, finishing 12 feet, 6 inches away from the pin on hole #8.

In B flight action May 8, Joyce Goff swung past silver medalist Nancy Kisseberth for the title.

Runner-up Etta Nichols trailed champion Brenda Baker in C flight.

Ethel Hull and Billie Gibbs finished one-two in D flight.

On hole #8, Joyce Karnes finished 40 feet away to pocket closest-to-the-pin prize money. Etta Nichols was closest on #14 with a tee shot that left her 23 feet, 1 inch shy of the pin.
