G. Vernon McCracken, 81, of Payson, died May 29, 2001, in Payson. He was born Dec. 1, 1919, in Cisne, Ill.
Mr. McCracken was in the Navy during World War II and retired with the rank of major from the Arizona National Guard. He worked for 26 years at the Employment Security Commission, 15 years as director of Arizona Laborer's Training Center and served six years on the Arizona Industrial Commission.
He was a member of the Elks Club, VFW, American Legion and the Moose Lodge.
Survivors include one daughter, Patty McCracken, and her husband, Gordon, of Salt Lake City, Utah; one son, Michael McCracken, and his wife, Michelle, of Phoenix; two sisters; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Virginia E. McCracken and one daughter, Julia Kay McCracken.
Memorial Services were held Thursday, May 31 at Messinger Payson Funeral Home.
Interment was at National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona in Phoenix.
