Humorous Letter Achieved Opposite Effect

Editor:

This letter is an apology to all those people I offended, or may have irritated with my stupid letter called "Pasonians and Pasonites" (Oct. 23 Roundup).

At the time I wrote it, I was reacting to all the negative letters I was reading in "Letters to the Editor" and was attempting to lighten things up with a little humor a parody with wild exaggerated descriptions which I thought would be beyond belief.

I was wrong. I missed the mark and created just the opposite effect for many readers.

Let me assure you that I know of no one who would fit either of these crazy descriptions! Nor am I disgruntled, unhappy, irritated, or in any way displeased with any group of people in Payson.

Just the opposite.

I am a third generation Arizonan who picked Payson to retire in BECAUSE of the wonderful people who live here. Before I retired from teaching, I researched small towns all over the Western states and it is my considered opinion that Payson is probably one of the friendliest towns that can be found anywhere. Many visitors that I have talked to have expressed this very same opinion.

Those of you who know me also know that I have been giving back to this wonderful town since I arrived nine years ago and that the last thing I wanted to do was degrade the town or its people.

I love Payson and the people in it. Period.

My apologies especially to the two people who took the time to write their own letter to the editor and get my attention without which I might not have become aware of how negative my letter appeared to some.

Thank you and God bless you.
