This thank-you was recently presented to longtime Payson resident Karl Knotts by a member of the USO. Karl is presently residing at the Arizona State Veterans Home in Phoenix. Mr. Knotts received two Purple Hearts and four Bronze Stars from injuries received in World War II and was recently presented the Freedom Medal by Congressman J.D. Hayworth. He definitely missed being a part of Payson's various ceremonies honoring veterans on the Veterans Day, Nov. 11. He hopes to be back home in Payson to celebrate with his fellow veterans in 2002.
Thanks to Veterans
Our Veterans have served to keep us free.
They have fought on land and on the sea.
They have lived under fire and under attack.
And some of them would never come back.
They carried a helmet and a gun
Into fields of World War I.
Just a few years later they fought anew,
And stormed the beaches in World War II.
They survived Korea and Vietnam,
And liberated Kuwait from Saddam.
These battles would have never been won
Without the job our forces have done.
Thanks to Karl with a "K" who carried a gun,
And to all Veterans, each and every one!
