A trio of senior members of the Lady Longhorn volleyball team have been tapped for postseason All-East regional honors.
The three Jania Rodriguez, Brooke McRae and Hanna Ludwig were chosen to the star team in a voting of region coaches held at the conclusion of the regular season.
Rodriguez was named to the All-East first team as a middle hitter.
McRae, also a middle hitter, was chosen honorable mention, as was Hanna Ludwig, who played outside hitter for the Lady Horns.
The Payson girls honored were highly deserving, coach Chris Schwind said, because they all contributed significantly to the Horn cause throughout the season.
Rodriguez, Schwind said, "was a hard worker and a great attribute to the team."
The teen transferred to Payson High from Bradshaw Mountain prior to the start of the school year.
From the onset of preseason practices, Rodriguez "fit in almost immediately ... but I wish I had her earlier (in her prep career)," Schwind said.
Throughout the campaign, McRae was a tenacious player who was at her best near the net.
"She's very aggressive and always gave it her all," Schwind said.
Ludwig was the most improved player on the team, the coach said. "She really came on late in the season."
Much of Ludwig's contributions came from the back row where she excelled defensively.
Because all three are seniors, the athletes are eligible to be selected to the coaches association all-star team when the players for the squads are chosen next month.
