The Lady Longhorn soccer team takes its act today (Friday) to Camp Verde where it will participate in the Cowboy Invitational Tournament.
Action continues in the tournament tomorrow on the campus of Camp Verde High School.
The once-beaten Lady Horns advance to the tournament as one of the top teams in the 3A conference and quite possibly the most accomplished squad in the five-year history of girls soccer at Payson High School.
The team proved how resilient it can be last Saturday at Rumsey Park in a 1-0 record over archrival Blue Ridge.
Although the clashes between the Lady Horns and the Yellow Jackets are usually hotly contested, sportsmanship traditionally prevails.
"It is always nice to play Blue Ridge, because the girls all get along on the field," coach Linda Gibson said.
Following the win over the Jackets, the coach said sophomore Brenna Zumbro played a great game.
In junior varsity action between the two schools, Payson ran roughshod over the Jackets 6-2.
Kelsea Palace led the offense by scoring three goals. Katie Plumb, Lori Shepherd and Ashley Geske scored one each.
The jayvees will return to action Oct. 10 when Round Valley visits Rumsey Park. Game times are 4 p.m. (jayvee) and 6 p.m. (varsity).
