Two Payson teenagers are hoping to participate in the World Martial Arts Championships next year in Las Vegas, Nev.
Leticia Diaz and her younger brother Victor, who moved to Payson in 1998 from their native country of Mexico, say they plan to be a part of the championships that are billed as the largest martial arts celebration in the country.
The two say they were invited to the Las Vegas showcase after showing well at a United Martial Arts Association competition Aug. 29 in Tucson.
Leticia, who graduated from Payson High School last spring, said she has an orange belt in Japanese karate and a purple in Tae Kwon Do.
Victor, an eighth-grade student at Rim Country Middle School, has earned an orange belt in Tae Kwon Do.
Both youngsters are students of local instructor Larry Sheehan.
