I learned the news of (Susan Birchak's) untimely death five minutes before I went on the air Wednesday morning. With a lump in my throat, I tried to hold back the tears and do what Susan would have wanted me to do ... carry on.
She was not only a colleague, but a true friend. So vibrant, loving and always ready with a hug. Her warm, caring personality will be missed for a long time to come, and perhaps that's why we don't understand or don't want to accept an untimely death, for we tend to take life for granted.
We assume our friends and family will always be there. Let's remember, to take time for the people we hold most dear and cherish every minute. And, for Susan, "our lives are better left to chance, I could have missed the pain, but I'd of had to miss the dance."
