At long last, Payson's famous boxcars are on the move again. The town purchased the land they've occupied for decades at the northwest corner of Main Street and McLane Road for a historic park. The deal included the stipulation the three boxcars be removed, so owner Clint Simmons offered them free of charge to anyone who would haul them away. The new owner, Charles Jones, plans to have them placed side-by-side on his ranch on top of the Rim, where they will be converted into a house. Originally ice cars, the boxcars have one foot-thick walls and weigh 70,000 to 80,000 pounds so heavy the undercarriage has to be cut away before they can be moved.
