Both Payson High School soccer teams are bound today (Friday) for Tucson with visions of state championships dancing in the heads.
The Lady Longhorn soccer team, coached by Linda Gibson, qualified for the state finals with a regional second-place showing during the regular season.
According to PHS Athletic Director Dave Bradley, the Horns begin pursuit of a state crown tomorrow at 2 p.m. at Udall Park. The team's opening foe is Tucson St. Gregory's High School.
The boys team enters the state tournament as a four-seed and will tip off at 6 p.m. today (Friday), also at Udall Park, against Country Day School.
If the Horns can play their way to victories in the opening round, they would remain in Tucson for further tournament action Saturday.
A pair of victories by either PHS squad would qualify them for second round on play Nov. 2 at Udall Park and St. Gregory School. The finals are slated to be played Nov. 3, also in Tucson.
