Local law enforcement agencies are gearing up for the 16th Annual Christmas for Kids Golf Tournament to be held Oct. 21 at the Payson Golf Course.
The event requires a lot of support from local businesses and individuals who are willing to open up their wallets to make Christmas meaningful for needy children in northern Gila County.
Last year, more than 175 children from infants to teenagers were presented with toys and clothing.
This year's event will kick off with the officers going on the auction block on the night of Oct. 20. The men and women behind the badge will be sold to the highest bidder to complete a four-person golf team.
This year's auctioneer will be Payson Police Sgt. Rod Mamero.
The minimum bid for an officer is $150. The only additional cost is $80 which covers your entire team's golf cart and green fees for the 18-hole best ball play Sunday.
The event will be polished on Sunday afternoon, following play with a free deep-pit barbecue and beans lunch prepared by the Albert Hunt and Roy Creach families.
Promoters also are seeking door prizes and cash donations from those who can't participate in the tournament, but want to give to the cause.
