Rim country residents can join their fellow Americans in expressing their sorrow and patriotism at "An Evening of Solidarity and Prayer" at 6 p.m. tonight (Friday) at Green Valley Park.
"The public is urged to join with friends and neighbors in our community ... to recognize the events of recent days and respond to the president's call for a national day of prayer and remembrance," Payson resident Mary Goddard, one of the event's organizers, said.
The Payson Town Council endorsed the event at its meeting Thursday evening.
Billed as an evening of "patriotic songs, special speakers from our community, and most of all, prayer for our nation and all the people who were affected by this attack on America," the event will take place at the Arizona War Memorial and the amphitheater.
Those who plan to attend are encouraged to bring candles, chairs and flashlights, and to wear red, white and blue clothing.
The Payson Candle Factory has donated 300 candles.
Other organizers include Janet Crane, manager of the Rim Country Regional Chamber of Commerce, veteran Bill Sahno and Payson Flag Committee chairperson Lee Pretsch.
