Movie Madness Affects Longhorns' Homecoming

"Movie Madness" is the theme for this year's Payson High School's homecoming celebration which kicks off Monday.

It will be a week of costumes, rallies, competition and spirit-building on and off the campus of the high school.

Monday morning students can actually sleep in late, crawl out of bed and attend school in their pajamas; it's "Sleepless In Seattle" day. Classes will be on an assembly schedule due to the pep rally in the auditorium at 11:40 a.m. The traditional bonfire will start at 7 p.m. at the Payson Event Center in the overflow parking lot.

"Castaway" will be the feature presentation on Tuesday. Students are encouraged to dress tropical, keeping in mind the clothing must meet the school dress code. The volleyball team will be hosting Round Valley with the freshman at 4:30 p.m., junior varsity at 5:30 p.m. and varsity at 6:30 p.m.

Wednesday's theme is "Wild Wild West" for those who can round up some boots, cowboy hats and chaps. The boys soccer teams will play at Rumsey Park with the junior varsity on the field at 3:30 p.m. followed by the varsity at 5:30 p.m. Float building will be held from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. in the auto shop building area.

Polyester will be the fabric of the day Thursday as the students take to the dance floor for a little "Saturday Night Fever." The celebration will continue with an attendant assembly where the king and queen candidates and class attendants will be introduced. A Rim country version of "The Weakest Link" also will be played.

"Remember The Titans" will round out theme week Friday with everyone encouraged to wear their purple and gold.

The annual "Sludge to Judge" cross country race also will be held on Friday, starting at about 1:30 p.m. with runners beginning the the sanitary district and ending at the courthouse.

The Homecoming parade is set to begin at 2 p.m. Friday on Main Street from Green Valley Park. The parade will head east on Main to South Colcord where it will go north to the middle school parking lot.

Friday night

Kickoff for the football game against Snowflake will be at 7 p.m. Halftime ceremonies will feature the crowning of the 2001 Homecoming King and Queen.

A dance for students and alumni will follow the game.
