Anita Lee, 32, received multiple stab wounds after being attacked in her Star Valley home on Tuesday night.

The Gila County Sheriff's Department responded to a 911 call at the C Bar Diamond trailer park at 7:10 p.m. following a report that a female had been stabbed.

Lee was in her residence when the suspect entered her home and began stabbing her with a hunting knife. The suspect, a female, fled the scene. The Sheriff's Office conducted a search of the area on foot and by air with the assistance of the Payson Police Department and a Department of Public Safety helicopter, but were unable to locate the assailant.

According to Det. George Ratliff of the Gila County Sheriff's Department, Lee did not know the suspect. She was air-lifted to a Valley hospital, where she underwent surgery and is listed in critical condition. The knife blade penetrated a kidney and nearly severed her colon, according to a report Ratliff received Thursday.

The case remains under investigation.
