Summer Rec Program Should Stay

Editor:

I have heard that there is not going to be a summer recreational program in the Rim Country Middle School gym this year. It is not going to be in the gym this year because Hot Shots are going to be staying there for the fire season. The summer recreational program has been located in the Rim Country Middle School gym for more than 10 years, and is very popular among the youth of Payson. The program gives kids something to do in their summers besides going to the public pool. It does not cost any money to participate.

Some of the activities that kids can enjoy are wiffleball, basketball, football, pingpong, foosball and billiards. Kids entering fifth grade through high school may attend. All ages get along and have a good time.

The recreation center is a great place for kids to be in the summer. It would benefit the youth of Payson if the Hot Shots would be able to stay at a different location as in the past. In previous years, the Hot Shots have stayed at other sites, such as Payson Elementary School's P.E. room. Other suggestions are Julia Randall Elementary's gym or Frontier Elementary's cafeteria.
